Only two weeks after that bid became public, Boise Cascade emerged as the second suitor when it sent a letter of intent expressing interest in acquiring Forex. On July 26, Boise Cascade confirmed that it had offered C$31 per share (US$20.68) for the Canadian company, plus assumption of debt.

L-P annually makes 4.5 billion square feet of OSB out of 12 plants and claims to be the world’s largest producer. At Boise Cascade, structural panels, which consist of OSB and plywood, accounted for 36 percent of its $1.7 billion in building materials sales. OSB is clearly driving Boise’s growth in the structural panel category. Where Boise Cascade’s plywood revenues dropped 1 percent last year, its OSB sales grew 130 percent.
