A top Indonesian economic official said Tuesday the government is currently studying the possibility of implementing a foreign exchange monitoring system that would require exporters to report their hard currency earnings.

Ginandjar is in Batam to accompany President B.J. Habibie, who is scheduled to meet Philippine President Joseph Estrada there.

News that Jakarta may introduce some forms of capital control reemerged last week when Ginandjar said the government was considering forcing exporters to report their hard currency earnings.
